At PDFen, your security and privacy come first. Whether you're converting, merging, or sharing PDFs, we believe in offering a fast and easy service without compromising your trust. Here's how we go above and beyond to keep your data safe and private.
Unlike many "free" online tools, PDFen isn’t interested in collecting or profiting from your data. We don’t sell it, analyze it, or store it unnecessarily. Our goal is simple: to help you convert and manage your documents, and then erase them from our servers as soon as possible.
We rely primarily on our paying users (not your data) to keep the platform running. So if you enjoy using PDFen regularly, consider supporting us by purchasing a license!Â
From the moment you upload your file, your data is protected:
Secure file encryption: Your converted PDFs are encrypted and only accessible with your account password. Since we don’t store your password, only you can access your files.
Automatic file deletion: Files are automatically deleted after the session ends or after the retention time you specify.
No retrieval possible: If you delete a file, it’s gone for good — we can’t restore it.
HTTPS connection: All communication takes place over secure TLS (HTTPS) connections.
Hosted in the Netherlands: Our servers are located in a Dutch data center certified with ISO 27001 and other international standards.
Private file sharing: Share files securely via a secret, unique link that only you control.Â
Security is not just about the files, but also the systems underneath them. Hence, why only our senior technical staff with two-factor authentication can access the cloud infrastructure.
Terminal security: Access to servers is gated with personalized login credentials and a gatekeeper system that checks unknown IP addresses.
Monitored server changes: Any changes to our server’s file system or unexpected errors are instantly flagged and sent to our tech team for review.
SSL security scores: PDFen regularly checks that our SSL encryption meets or exceeds a grade A rating on SSL Labs.
Even behind the scenes, we respect your privacy:
No stored documents in the database: Only document titles are saved — and even those are anonymized and fully removed after a few weeks.
Restricted server access: Conversion servers are only accessible by our web servers and approved internal IP addresses.
Built-in virus protection: Every server runs active antivirus software to scan for threats.Â
It's not just about tech; our people follow strict privacy rules too:
Confidentiality agreements: All employees sign a binding confidentiality agreement.
Password-protected laptops: Employee laptops are locked when unattended and can only be accessed with secure personal passwords.
No unauthorized file access: Employees can only open your files if you explicitly give permission — and must do so through your shared link.
No use of external storage: Files are not saved to USBs or external hard drives unless you request it.
Database access for tech use only: Our staff accesses the system database exclusively for technical maintenance.
Strong password policies: Employees must update their passwords at least once a year, following strict complexity requirements.
--> At PDFen, your trust is our responsibility. Whether you're a casual user or a daily uploader, we’re committed to providing a reliable service that protects your privacy at every turn. Ready to convert securely? Visit us and try it for yourself.Â
